Abstract
The Portable Patient File is an automated medical record system based on the latest database technology and inspired by Weed's Problem-Oriented Medical Record, intended not only to collect information but to organize it for later use by physicians, patient-monitoring systems, diagnostic systems, and clinical research systems. The Portable Patient File was defined using an extended entity-relationship model and implemented on an Oracle Relational Data Base Management System. With the use of the MEDAS Feature Dictionary, the Portable Patient File can be reformatted for submission to any appropriate MEDAS Knowledge Base, or translated into the shape expected by other expert systems. .
